The hardest part of the production was battling with the weather. The second we started filming it started raining and we had to wait. During the production the sun was in and out and screwing up the exposure quite a few times and there’s nothing we could do but wait. The inconsistent lighting of the outdoor environment was a major problem.
Another flaw is the focus. In some shots with a shallow depth of field, mainly the shot of Lyreca, it is very obvious that they are out of focus. Jackson and I both found it very difficult to focus through the viewfinder of Sony EX3, Jackson had to take off his glasses and use the viewfinder’s in order to adjust. And apparently it didn’t work very well.
There’s problems with the framing too. In the shots with both of them in the frame, there’s either too much head space or not enough head space for Lyreca. Or the shots could have been framed better from above chest and below hairline.
This shot of Liv should be tighter with only half of her face in the frame and less movements.

The storyboards I sketched was based on our original idea of the story. The story is about two girls catching up with each other’s lives while the protagonist, who has social anxiety is trying hard to focus but is unable to tune in what the other girl’s talking about. Later she snaps back to reality when she hears her ex-boyfriend’s name. And she finally finds out that the friend is dating her ex-boyfriend and the situation becomes really awkward.
We imagined that the protagonist observes the other girl for a long time, not being able to listen to what she’s saying. So there’s close ups of Liv’s earrings, necklace and lips in the storyboards. In the film, there’s only the close up o the lips because there’s not enough lines to go with the shots. If the voice over of Lyreca was longer and the content was more detailed on how she met the girl and how they met through her ex-boyfriend, both the montage and the story would have made more sense.
In the whole process of making this film, I think I didn’t do a great job as a director. I feel like I have lots of knowledge but didn’t think of using them when it came to practical work or had I been actively participating in every aspect of the making of it. If I had put more effort into preparing, discussing and using the knowledge that I had learned in the previous studios, the film would have turned out to be better and more professional.
