My roommate and his brother fight a lot. The kind of fight that usually get a little physical and end up with one of them facetiming their mom to tell on the other and eventually both of them get scolded. The kind of fight that get really ugly. There was one time that the fight got really bad, I hear my roommate screaming and crying and yelling at his brother in the living room and then went into her room and shut the door. Her room is only a wall from mine and the soundproof isn’t quite good so I could hear her sobbing. I thought about if I should go check on her but something in the air told me that the fight was not quite over. His brother is in the living room arguing with his mom. After a couple minutes I heard my roommate rushed out of her room and left our apartment. I went out of my room to talk to her brother on what happened and he showed me his neck and chest which were covered by red scratches. He seemed to have calmed down a little bit from what I could tell from his tones, a bit nonchalant, as if nothing severe happened here a moment ago and no one rushed out the room. I felt it was really none of my business to ask about why they were fighting, it seemed to be rooted from a big issue in the family. And I didn’t understand Cantonese so I had absolutely no idea what were the conversations about. It was very late at night so I was starting to worry about my roommate’s safety so I messaged her to ask where she was. She didn’t reply until an hour later and said she’s fine and would be home soon.
