Response to a Presentation

I especially liked Jacky, Brews, Max and Matt’s group. I think it’s because they haven’t come up with too many plans and give possibilities to . The idea of doing an intense dialogue in the context of a science fiction setting sounds really cool. Their inspiration are mostly clips from Blade Runner 2049 and The Dark Knight, both films are highly intense in terms of plots. The lighting in Blade Runner 2049 is a true masterpiece, it varies from scene to scene and expresses intricate emotions the subject feels. The lighting in The Dark Knight consists of three-point lighting, low-key lighting or high-key lighting. For the interrogation scene, three-point lighting was used to portray the helplessness of Batman and the police.

To make the experiment on lighting easier and more doable, the ideal location would be in a small room with just a table and two chairs. The more minimal of the set looks, the more lighting works its magic. The clips they showed all looked super simplistic, minimalistic. The aesthetics all contributed to the institutionalized feeling and the futuristic look. And that’s a good point to start with.

I’d love to see their experiment with the water refracting light. The water waves on the wall really give out the message of something is about to floor over the surface, wether it’s a kind of emotion or a secret/piece of information.

I think they also showed a clip in which there’s smoke and fog. It would be cool to try to make it a abstractive symbol of the truth’s hidden and the subject is confused and clueless.

It would be interesting to combine some of the lighting techniques. I’d love to see the water refracting texture over the three-point lighting.
