In week 5’s studio, we started to go into lighting design. We were tasked with finding places that have dappled, diffused or reflected lighting to film at according to given scripts.
I chose to film at the café in building 10. The lighting there was high-key and warm and the location had glasses reflecting the lights on both sides of the way, so the subject matter’s façades would be close to equally lit.
I did not really think about what type of lighting could go with the script better. The script we were given was MISSION IMPROBABLE, which contained two spies having an intense conversation. The atmosphere should be full of tension and uncertainty. In order to do that, the lighting should be shadowy and low-key.
For editing, I learned to mark the spots where the actor in the video starts to move her mouth and where the actor starts talking in the audio and then drag the bars so the markers are aligned. It was so much easier to synchronize the audio that we recorded with the rode microphone and the video in this way.
