Some notes:
Audio drama, documentaries & features
Broadcast & radio are important in making media. Info could help with making other types of medias.
RadioLab Time (season I, episode I) – ‘program intro’
As a piece progresses you get a sense of where things fall.
In other words, audio hints the audience of what is coming. It implies if the story is about to end in 15 mins or just about to start.
Radio creates a space just for you. Being in the centre. From a microphone. Makes you feel included.
Music. Don’t use it all the time.
My favorite song of The Beach Boys – Good Vibration appears in the intro of CBC Radio: The Wire. I might just start listening to them hahaha.
Lots of ‘umm’s hahahaha. This is fun to listen to.
Sounds of the world. Using commonly known nonverbal sounds to communicate.
Story types. Don’t ever use numbers.
If you record, record at least two textures. One texture is like running with one leg.
Work with the content you have.
Save draft!!!! Don’t rely on auto draft.
Our guest Kyla talks to us a lot about aural media and how it interwinds with our senses. The aural media allows us to enjoy with our eyes closed and that to a certain extent, creates a sense of intimacy.
Silence is an important element, it is leaves space for imagination.
Music is a crucial element in audio, it controls the timbre and the mood.
