In this week’s workshop, we started with the screening of PB3. I was not so satisfied with my PB3 work as the audio went wrong and I had to fix it with Audition but still it was not ideal. So I asked Jeremy not to display mine.
I really liked Tristan’s interview of this feminist jewelry maker, the soundtrack was really funky and the effects of the texts flashing in multiple colors was quite remarkable. It was very funny when the girl shared some of her life stories and talked about why she started making feminist jewelries. I might focus on the story/content of the interview more next time.
We briefly talked about the reading of this week which is about how much incorrect information that we encounter on the Internet. Someone told a story in which a woman pretended to be ill to trick people into raising money for her. And I heard one a long time ago that a mother told her daughter that she was very sick ever since she was born and the girl to con people to donate for the girl’s medical treatment. It wasn’t until she was around 12 that people found out that the girl was completely healthy. And this topic reminded me of how many times that I believed that some instagram memes of Donald Trump’s tweets were his actual tweets. How awful is that??
And then we kicked off on PB4’s introduction and I was grouped with Joanna and Kate (who was absent). Joanna and I were already friends and we got along quite well.
For PB4, we are to make an audio clip using ZOOM H2N – a really fancy recorder that does the job so much better than my Rode microphone which caused horrible technical issues for my PB3’s recording. Joanna and I figured out how to use it pretty fast and the only challenge was to know which mode to use when recording in different situations. I was confused for a while until Bree said there’s a instructive light pointing the area that the recorder covers. Joanna and I talked to the recorder to test it out a little bit and we’re fully familiarized with it. We’re missing Kate so we did not really decide on what topic we should do but we did do some research on human’s attention span and the use of music in daily life to attract attention. The lack of a member of our group made me kind of anxious and not know what to do and cannot decide on things. But fortunately Jeremy made up a google folder for our group so we posted everything we could find and our thoughts there hoping that Kate would have a look later and know what’s going on.
