In this week’s workshop, we had guests to check out our rough cuts of PB4 and give us feedbacks.
Earlier this week we decided on our topic and that is Nudity and Objectification of Women in the Media. And we wanted to pose the argument ‘is female nudity for sexual attention or artistic purposes?’. Fortunately, we got to interview a fashion student Jenny Lam (who is Joanna’s friend) as she does life drawing and an RMIT staff Dr. Stayci Taylor (who I knew through Jeremy) because she’s done a project with a feminist foucs.
We had only interviewed the two people before noon so we only got the raw clips of the interviews arranged together for Catherine to listen to. She told us that for Jenny’s case, we needed to get more clips on her talking about how she deals with nudity as a fashion designer did life drawing but at the same time she covered the bodies up and we need more details on how she works with fabrics as well. For Stayci’s case, she suggested that we could put clips of soft voices reading and describing female nude bodies while she’s saying her opinions on female nudity with one on the left and one on the right, creating the visualization for the listeners. For music, Catherine suggested that we should have different types of background music for the two cases. And for other elements, she said we should get the sound of scissors cutting the drapes and fabrics for Jenny’s part and typing sounds for Stayci’s. And she also mentioned that for Stayci’s part, a lot should be cut out as she stutters sometimes and we should cut to the bit where she’s paying attention to what she’s speaking.
We would definitely make some changes as she suggested but with our own original ideas maintained. And it’s been confirmed with our tutor Jeremy that it’s just me and Joanna doing this as Kate had been sick and not coming to classes or group discussions outside of school.
