Reflective Writing

Much of the writing required in this course is of a reflective nature.

Each and every week you should reflect upon the events, experiences, understandings and possible revelations of that week. Most classes will involve some practical exercise or group activity which should give rise to reflection also. Prompts or suggestions for reflection will be provided each week up to, and including, Week 8, and will be communicated to students via regular Announcements in Canvas.

Minimum requirement for Assignment 1:

Three Reflections (minimum 300 words each).

Descriptive & Analytical Writing

The terminology used to describe the coverage of a scene, together with the process of analysis, will be a significant component of all classes.

Requirement for Assignment 1:

One Basic Description and Analysis of a film scene (300 words minimum – 500 words maximum).

Choose a scene from a drama (i.e. not a documentary, promotional or experimental) film and describe, deconstruct and analyse that scene in terms of camera coverage and overall structure.  Your analysis should be supported by a link to the scene in question, either on the internet (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo) or an appropriately labelled file in your Google/One Drive Folder (TBA).

NB  All of the above mentioned written work should be completed regularly over the course of the period covered by the Assignment.  Performance of all work on the eve of the due date will inhibit your developmental and creative potential, and this is likely to be reflected in your assessment.

A note on submitting your assignment

You must write an index post that contains hyperlinks to each post, then paste the URL of that post into the ‘Website URL’ field in the “Submission Section” in Canvas by the due date.
