The Bayhem

Bayhem = ‘Michael Bay’ + ‘mayhem’, refers to movies that directed by Michael Bay, which included tons of epic visual effects, epic camera movement and epic camera angles, such as the Transformer series. Even though its plots were straightforward and always look similar, it could still get a good box office result due to the massive amount of special effects and spectacular camera movements, that had directly seized the control of our nervous system, stimulated our various perceptions, and let us feel being entertained.

Film as being the combination of sound and image, music also played a huge role in those ‘Bayhem’ epic scenes, that sound could change the pace of a film, as well as project it a tone at the same time.

In my hybrid short film, the ‘Bayhem’ effect could apply to the chasing scene in the middle of the film by shooting in certain dramatic angles, such as the POV, low angle panning, bird’s eye angle, with a cinematic chasing music that managing the fast editing pace. Moreover, the strobe effect (repeatedly flash to black) could be used to accelerate the speed of the film by acting as a trigger of the tone changing.
