A2 – Reflective Writing 2 (The Scene In Cinema 2021)

WEEK 2

This week, we learned how to make a film and how to make a film and how to make some preliminary preparations, we should do the floor plan, shooting storyboard, edit storyboard, and shooting list, I learned how to mark the script to let the staff know which actors in these scenes are on the screen and which ones are not on the screen. We also did exercises around these knowledge points in class. We were divided into several groups, and then we made his shooting list and storyboard around a movie clip. In the process of group discussion, I also gradually discovered some very noteworthy problems, because there were differences when the discussion clips were shot with several shots. Someone in our group said that six shots were used, but I always think Only four shots were used, and I believed I was correct but I later reflected on why the team member thought that six shots were used because she did not consider that some shots were actually taken with the previous shots. And then take apart a whole shot and put in other shots during editing. I think this is also something worth noting when analyzing other clips later. After that, I also took out the film notes I learned in the diploma and reviewed it and then tried to make a new shooting list and storyboard based on the clips of the film I filmed myself. I think that by doing so, I can improve my sensitivity to this knowledge.

In Thursday’s class, we discussed the scene direction. In this class, I also understood that the scene direction can maintain the smoothness of the perspective of a set of the shoot, and in general, it uses multiple lenses or pan and tilt the way to present. In class, the teacher also showed us some clips to let us understand the screen direction. I found that one of the clips actually broke the 180-degree shooting rule, but the cohesion of the shots and the smoothness of the story did not feel that it was very contradictory.

WEEK 4

I week 4 of the course I gained new knowledge, in the first few weeks of a study conducted on the basis of the deeper exploration and discussion, and combining with the classroom teacher assigned in the last week of shooting practice, this week, the teacher also around our shooting practice is analyzed and explained, for me, this week’s two classes is very useful, content is also very rich.

In Monday’s class, we explored around the lines, how to make a plain line interesting and attractive in the camera. the teacher showed us 6 clips to help us think about this topic. In these 6 clips, each clip uses a lot of techniques to make a soulless line on the screen very infectious and attractive. From this, I also summarized a few points to answer the topic we discussed. The first is the acting skills of the actor. A good actor can interpret a line very vividly and very contagiously. The second is the switching of the camera and the operation of the camera(moving camera). Good timing of lens switching can fully show the subtext and atmosphere in the lines. And excellent switching can also make the audience more infected by the plot when watching the clips. The third point is the position of the actor. It is very important for the actor to move the position and position when he speaks the line. This is very useful to make the expression of the line more interesting. In addition to these, we also discussed how a film is interpreted in different cultural contexts. I think this is very interesting because when the same movie structure appears in different cultural backgrounds, there are so many kinds of expressions.

In the course on Thursday, the teacher watched the exercises taken by each of us, then analyzed and commented one by one and then gave suggestions. From this, I also clearly understood some of the problems in the shooting process. When using the distant view, the problem of the ratio of the characters and the scene should be more suitable for the entire screen. There is also the time to switch shots. In the editing process, you should be very careful about the continuity and rationality between shots, so that you won’t get confused and misunderstood.

A1 – Descriptive & Analytical Writing(The Scene In Cinema 2021)

‘Wolf of Wallstreet’ Film Footage Description and Analysis

Link to movie clips:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbliHNs4q14

The scene comes from the ‘The Wolf of Wall Street,’ starring Leonardo Freedman. The first reason why I choose this segment is that it is very classic and I like it very much. The second reason is that combined with the three weeks of study, I think this segment is very consistent with my feelings during the three weeks of study. The whole scene was shot in a high-rise restaurant. A total of six camera positions were used to shoot the whole clips, two of them are use medium close shot, and one of them use long shot, one  use wide shot, the last two shot use extra close up to describes the detail of the shot. The next step is to analyze the four shots one by one.

They use medium close shot to showing the reactions of the two characters as they talk, the position of the first camera is oppsite to the actor1, while the position of the second camera is opposite to the actor 2 and a little to the left. The method of identification can be based on their eye line. and when waiter was coming, they didn’t change the position of the camera, they use the eye line of the actor to let us know where is the waiter’s position. As well as they follow the rule of 180 degree. They use long shot to let us know that these two characters are in the same environment and show that they are interacting. the position of the camera is opposite to the two actors. The purpose of using a wide shot is explain the environment and atmosphere of the two characters. Use the other two extra close shot is a close-up of the character’s current actions.

In general, in the whole clip, none of the six shots has no effect or useless, each shot is separate and has its own unique effect.

A1 – Reflective Writing 3 (The Scene In Cinema 2021)

WEEK 3

In this week’s class, we had a discussion about the location of the camera, Through further study this week and knowledge gained in the last two weeks, I think it is very easy to shoot a complete segment. It also taught us some mistakes that we should not make. For beginners, these things will be the most important pieces of the puzzle when we start shooting short films, this knowledge is very important.

In the first class of this week. We analyzed the lens design of several films and the placement of cameras. We found that by using a fixed camera position and using several different perspectives to explain the scene, we could actually make a complete short film, which could fully express the information given in the clip. This can save a lot of time, and it is very effective to quickly capture the pictures you want in the shooting process. Combined with the knowledge of floor plan, storyboard, and focal length learned in the first two weeks, it will be very effective. And also found that if we can identify the approximate position of a camera, we can tell which position the camera is set to shoot the scene through the actor’s eye line, which is a very convenient method for us to learn film shots. On the other hand, in this class, we also learned some rules that should not be broken casually in the shooting process, such as the 180-degree shooting rule, which should not exceed the 180-degree line in the shooting process of two people’s dialogue or behavior. if this rule is broken, the feeling of two people communicating with each other will not be presented in the clip, because they will be facing the same side instead of the opposite side, which will bring confusion to the viewer.

In the second class of this week. Robin asked us to choose one of the scripts he gave us and shoot a short video with the knowledge we had learned before. I think this is a worthwhile thing to do because it will test a summary of the three weeks’ learning.

A1 – Reflective Writing 2 (The Scene In Cinema 2021)

WEEK 2

In this week’s class, we discussed the camera sensor of the film, and we still saw a lot of single-shot clips in the class. Because no complex shot switching clips are too normal, and these clips lose the value of lens language and learning. For beginners, a more intuitive and detailed analysis of a single shot will help us to understand more clearly some knowledge of the film.

In the first class of this week, we will focus on the lens angle and analyze how to use the lens angle to shoot a scene, like when we use wide-angle to shot, we don’t need to cut the other scene, because wide-angle already includes everything in the shot. when the characters are talking, we need to give them some reaction shot so we’re going to cut the scene to the other. In the second class of this week, we learn about the focal length of the lens. we know the focal length is in millimetres, and we know that the shorter the focal length the smaller the number, and the longer the focal length the larger the number. Through several clips, we also know the use and difference of short and long focal length. The short focal length allows the main character’s surroundings to be put together in the shot and the character to relate to the environment. While the long focal length reduces the proportion of the shot, only the surrounding environment of the main character is blurred or compressed, but it can pay more attention to the details of the character, such as facial expression and movements. But in our shooting, it’s actually more important to think about perspective. it’s not just the depth of the characters. Make relationship of perspective and characters.

Through this week’s study and appreciation, I also reflect on some issues about the film lens. Sometimes we will use different shots to cut back and forth in the shooting process to create some atmosphere, but sometimes we can also think about how to create an atmosphere in the case of only one shot. I think this is a place worth exploring. In addition, the selection of the lens and the shooting angle can also be considered from the perspective of the lens.

A1 – Reflective Writing 1 (The Scene In Cinema 2021)

WEEK 1

Before I first came into contact with this studio, I thought this studio focused on the analysis of the details of the film, from the analysis of the script to the production of the shot, to the positioning lines of the actors, and all the parts were analyzed in detail.  I hope that through this course, I can have a better understanding of the whole process of the production of a film, including the details of script planning, the content of lines and the design of shots. I hope that I can have further professional understanding and analysis. I hope that I can have a more professional understanding of how to analyze and understand a script as a director and then reasonably present the content of the script on the screen in the form of a shot after I finish this semester, and I also hope that I can have a more professional understanding of the whole process and management of film production. After my first contact with the studio, I learn before made a movie, must have a Floor plan and Storyboard, floor plan can make the camera operator know where should the camera place, and know the direction the camera is facing and the trajectory of its movement. A storyboard can let the camera operator know the angle and the size of the lens and the direction of motion is. I hope that I can learn more knowledge about film production in the following course to help me better understand and play in my future work.

This week we saw 6 clips in the class, All these six scenes were shot in the form of one shot to the end without cutting the shot to connect to another shot. We analyzed the floor plan of these six clips in class and then analyzed the storyboards of these six clips to strengthen our understanding of the floor plan and storyboard.

A4 – Reflection 1

Reflection

During the group discussion and return brief this week, I have learned a lot and accumulated a lot of experience. I will focus on reflection on my feelings after completing my return brief this week from the following three points.

Concepts explored in the studio

When exploring the studio, our group assigned tasks to each person, and each person was exploring research goals for our own part. First of all, I will start with the background and introduction of the research objectives and then make a deep exploration from the shallow to the deep, so that I can clearly understand the research objectives.

The creative practice undertaken

In the process of practice, we found the all information to share with each other, and then take out your return brief, each point individually to discuss and then to modify a devolved into suitable information become the contents of this point, I think practice to do so will make us very smoothly, take out your each separate discussion then done one by one not only efficient and can learn a lot in the process.

Key moments of learning.

Review the whole do return brief, I think I learned a lot, from how to explore how a target to explore yourself content to share to others, let others also to receive your information, it is a linguistic skills, and learn to hierarchical explore this will let yourself in the process to understand clearly, Secondly, I know how to make a return brief and during the process, I know how to study the structure of an art studio from the perspective of business department. I think this key point is the most valuable experience I have gained after finishing this.

‘Space and time for comtemplation beyong our everyday life’

Look for the colors around you, look for a little peace

A post shared by Johnny (@music.s.camp) on

Introduction

We live in a world full of colorful landscapes. If these landscapes lose color, they will lose their soul. Finding color around you may bring a little peace and quiet to your busy life.

In my third reflection on authoring and publishing videos on Instagram, I was asked to do an Instagram carousel, so I make this by myself. I take color as a theme and I look for colors around me, and this reflection was connect to space and time for contemplation beyond our everyday life.

How did you author the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

I took these pictures through my iPhone X, this time I didn’t use my Sony a7III camera and camera function that comes with Instagram because the pixels taken by iPhone X are not worse than those taken by Sony a7III camera, and this time it is a photo rather than a video, the quality of the Sony a7III camera will be much higher than that of the iPhone X, but the photos are almost the same, so I choose a relatively light iPhone X to complete the shooting. Of course, the reason why I don’t use the camera function of Instagram is that I can’t easily edit and there will be so many restrictions that I won’t be able to create freely. When I started writing this works, I have no idea at the beginning, until I read I’ve taken three when I took these photos in Sydney, found that color in the picture is very good looking, this let me have my theme ‘find the color around of us’. Based on the the three photos as, I continue to look for the color around me, actually in the seven photo you will see a different color, these different color will give the viewer a different feeling, if you remove these colors or converted into other colors, but not its original characteristics and the feeling, when I am in the process of writing I look at the scenery I got a kind of never had a quiet. In this fast-paced era, every day is busy with many things, but at that moment I felt that these colors gave me a sense of peace and tranquility. I recorded them on my phone, combined them with photos I had taken before and selected seven of them for this presentation.

When editing, I download the Intasize app and put the photo in this app to edit. First I cut out the size of each photo, capture the part of the photo that I want to show most. Next, I adjusted the brightness of each photo to make each color in the photo more obvious and more beautiful. In the end, I tried adding background effects to each photo, but finally I gave up the idea, because I felt that the added backgrounf effect would not give me the quiet and natural feeling. I exported the edited photos from the app to the phone photos.

How did you publish the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

After I edited my photos, I opened my Instagram app and then opened the edited photos from Instagram and selected the Instagram carousel button and I wrote a tag for my post and I wrote this because I want let the audience have a resonance after see my post, maybe they will find color around them and have a little peace in their life.

Reflection Question:

Introduce your video work in relation to responding to the conceptual brief and the guidelines on form.

My work is about the color, In this fast-paced era, it’s easy to overlook a lot of things around us, so I want to use this post to share with you the colorful things around us. In fact, it only takes a little time to feel these things, you can feel calm and peaceful. I think this beyond our everyday life.

What did you learn from the authoring and publishing process?

In this reflection, I think the most rewarding part is that I have learned how to think, when I have no idea, I can go to other places for inspiration and think about how to present it around a certain theme, and I have also learned how to use the mobile phone to edit beautiful photos.

What went well?

I think this reflection my idea and photos are good, notonly connect to the conceptual brief, but also it’s very meaningful.

What did not go well?

I think the point of not go well is that I can not shoot more beautiful photo in my post, because it’s lockdown in Melbourne, I can’t go too far from my area.

What could you do better?

I think I have chance to shoot the next time, I will go far from my area and take more beautiful photos in my post.

Respond to the studio prompt question ‘How do the affordances of Instagram affect the way video content is authored?‘ What insights can you add in response to this question?

I think the affordances of Instagram is very helpful to authored the video content, it’s very convenient upload icon that lets me know where to upload my content and i can choose multiple option to post more than one photos and I can also sent a lot of option before i upload content and i can feel free when I creating the content. I can type in what I want to express and then show it to other people.

A2 – Global Research

1.What is your understanding of ‘brand awareness’ in this context?

In my understanding, brand awareness is the key to Marketing. What is Marketing, Seth Godin(2019) said marketing is at the core, it is the story you tell, who you’re telling it to, and why people are going to buy product or service.

Brand awareness is also created form this point, what is brand and why brands important. Brand is like promise (Drew 2020), it’s a promise I make to consumers when they do business with us, it’s important because Brands are both a strategic as well as a financial asset. Branding allows us to set a higher price for our product or service. So brand awareness can improve the possibility of brand appearing in consumers’ minds, and cause the number of specific buying and using situations that brand appears in consumers’ minds.

Back to the context, Brand awareness also plays a similar role in Gallery. Firstly, Gallery is different from marketing, which promotes its own brand and products to customers trough brand awareness to earn financial benefits, while Gallery conveys artistic value to audiences through brand awareness. The purpose of this brand awareness is to establish the position and attention of the gallery in the eyes of the audience through social media. Increases the likelihood that one’s gallery brand will appear in the audience’s mind, and can trigger the concept of particular value and a paricular exhibition scene that the gallery brand will appear in the audience’s mind. Like NGV this gallery, they build their brand awarenes through social platform like Instegram to illustrate the first gallery in Australia.

2.How are art galleries using media content to expand their ‘brand awareness’?

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, created in 1958 by Knut.W.Jensen. His concept is like make Danish see more modern art, then the founder of this museum of art on the international will-known works of the international museum, many activities held at the museum after promotion including invite singers to perform, later renamed the louisiana Museum since Kunt’s married three women all call Louis.

Now I choose this museum and looked at the Louisiana Museum on Instagram to see what type of media content, There are messages on their social medial platforms promoting their new painting, events in memory of a historical figure, works of art or videos based on current trending topics or themes, and content about the museum’s interactive facilities and the content of the sales promotion activity to expand their brand awareness. They create it in the form of videos and photographs and in the form of documentaries and every contents were connect their own feature of morden art.

For this example, we can see that art galleries use media to catch audience attentions, promote various activites and new art work of your own art museum to let the audience know and understand the brand information of certain art museum. also use the current topic to make art works, so as to resonate with the audience and increase the brand awareness of the art museum.

3.What media and communication strategies are art galleries using to guide the production of content?

I looked at the Louisiana Museum again and founds that their media and communication cover a number of areas. They include education, social issues, commemorating sports star, family realtionship, natural scenery, the collection, video highlights, interviews, interactive videos and introduction of artistic characters. The unique about this art gallery in regards to the arts and culture service they offer their audience is to present it in an artistic way while interviewing or making personal brief video, which not only brings presentation to the audience in terms of art, but also provides cognitive service to the audience in terms of history and culture.

It can be seen from this example that the content production of the art galleries on the media platform is very rich, while most of the communication strategies are to promote the characteristic art works of the museum, and to conduct artistic creation promotion in combination with contemporary social issues or social character of artistic creation, there are also some activities about their museum, invite the popular artist make a personal interview at the produce content to promote their brand awareness on the media platform. So how can each gallery have its own unique features while producing content, Each gallery combines many of the above elements and its own unique culture for dissemination and the inspiration of these communication media and communication strategies is determined by the brand information they want to spread. In this  way, they can better promote their brands.

Then they have to do is to input the content through the media channels to the audience, form the view of social media is a place to let the audience to invest time so the gallery will put these things respectively in different soocial media platforms and even take the form of web links on the web site to attract audience attention to their brand to gain popluarity.

A2 – Practice Analysis

Introduction

This Instagram post was published by NGV gallery museum on November 5, 2019 under the title ‘Explore KAWS’S world of characters at NGV international’. This is to promote the exhibition in cooperation with KAWS. And this is the link of this Instagram post:https://www.instagram.com/p/B4eymvJA23A/

Provide some context on the visual content by summarising the content, the context of publication, and the audience it targets.

This video is an exhibition promoting the cooperation between NGV and KAWS. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Companionship in the Lonely Times’. Therefore, there are many KAWS exhibits in the video, and these exhibits are exhibited in the form of mutual dependence or contact. This is a work for people of all ages, especially young people I think, necause in theis fast-paced era, young people as the core are more able to experience the feeling of loneliness and company.

How was the visual content made technically?

This video is done through Premiere, shooting these KAWS exhibits in the way of lens movement and set with fresh music to background. Then it perfectly combines the switching rhuthm of each fram with the rhythm of the background notes. Finally, add the KAWS flag and the NGV flag.

How does this piece of visual content fit into the art galleries media and communication strategies? What is it trying to achieve?

This video is integrated into the art gallery’s media with a perfect fit of music and vision. Each exhibit is presented around the theme, accompanied by the age of loneliness, using KAWS’ brand image and brand effect to present this theme, and through the brand awareness of NGV Art Museum to achieve the communication purpose that both parties want to achieve. The content not only uses the most popular video transmission method at present, but also includes art exhibition and pictures. The two elements perfectly combine to present the final media video.

Why did you choose this particular work?

The reason why I choose this work has two, first I’m very like KAWS personal representatives of the artist’s and like him to create the KAWS this doll, second NGV and KAWS both brand visibility is very high, their cooperation exhibition last year, I have heard and responsivity is very high, in the crowd that NGV and KAWS this cooperation is very successful, to enhance the brand awareness of NGV is quite helpful.

What do you find inspiring about the content and form?

Through the sharing of the content of this video, I got a lot of inspiration. If you want to increase the visibility of your own brand, one of the most direct means is to cooperate with other well-known brands, whether it is co-branding a piece of clothing or a product, or even cooperating to open an exhibition, they can successfully increase the visibility of their own brand. This kind of benefit is mutual.
