Egg hunting – Experience summary

After the seven week’s hard working with our all group members, we finally finished the final project. We are really proud that we could finished this work, also really thankful for all these help that we got from our tutor Rohan. This is my first time to make an music video with professional singers. Lucky that we could find these singers that are willing to work with us also with a very dedicated attitude, even when the weather is bad, there is no complaint. In the process of shooting, some good ideas and suggestion would be actively shared with us. As an team that working together, we all want to make our music video work best through our efforts. I am really glad that I can work with my group member, they are all hard workers while having some great ideas. I highly enjoyed this summer studio. Here is our final version of our music video. Hope you all enjoy it!

Egg Hunting – The creation of Music Video

Music TV refers to a work of art which is based on music, which is a form of auditory expression, which is a visual form of visual expression. Music television length is a complete song works, accompanied by singer singing and acting, and it sounds beautiful or manic music, or lyric images of quietly elegant is dazzling, brings a great deal of audio and visual stimuli. Music TV is an advertisement for music of art, and a separate art form. Whether from the history of music video or its creative characteristics, music TV commercial is its basic feature. Music TV is different from TV singing and dancing, music feature film, documentary. The artistic features of music TV are mainly the features of music, the features of the picture and the relationship between music and the picture. Music TV is known as the three-minute visual bombardment, and its images are characterized by irrationality and non-logic. In the music video, the leap of time and space, the incoherent action, the whimsical picture, the surreal environment, the exaggerated scenes are commonplace. These artistic features make the music video a surprising novelty and a strong visual impact, especially attracting young and exciting young audiences.

Egg Hunting – Reading reflection from film lighting analysis

My farewell my concubine, which is quite comfortable with light, is neither a single, dark, cool tone, nor a warm one. It somewhere in between, at the same time shows the decline of the old age as far as possible, on the other hand the characters camera reached enough warm color to move, to make people look is not a single, is a bloody. In the tone processing, try to take care of the characters’ emotions in the scene. Although the light of the whole environment has been lost in color and color, it has shown the social features of the past, and the story unfolds against the background of this era. The scene in qinglou is used the bright bright light, highlight the atmosphere that the paper is drunk gold fan vulgar. The beam at the entrance highlights the silhouette, creating a stage light effect that resembles a time tunnel, connecting the past with the present and setting the stage for later tragedies. The whole picture had only a very bright light in the middle, and the discarded baby was in that light, and the other children surrounded the baby, showing the affection of the children for the baby. When the theater’s famous corner shows, the bright stage lights and the glory of the stage and the “horn” bring psychological changes to the protagonist. Photography can be used to express the emotions of the characters. The white light falls directly from the top of the head, and the main body is left in outline, expressing an extremely negative emotion. A pair of light from the top of the two men of butterfly and chrysanthemum formed a confrontation between two people. A close-up of the mother’s face, which uses the side light to form a high contrast, shows the mood of the character at the moment in a confused mood.

Egg Hunting – Suggestion from the rough cut

After we showed our rough cut in class, there are several suggestion that we got from Rohan. In one of the indoor shot, we had a long vision shot, Rohan wanted if we could add more close up shot during that footage. So we recreated some of the scene, such as the massy table, put these footage in there, without any notice that it was different time of shooting. But we could not get the close up on singers’s face, because one of the member is already flew back to China. I really liked the idea of giving more detail shots in this picture, in this way it will make the frame look more diverse and richer. The second suggestion is that during the shot we kind added a little bit of story in the middle of the video try to show the Leo’s character in there, as an audience, it can not be known by what was going on between Leo and the guy that Leo was hitting at. So we should add a little piece of what was happened before to make that scene more reasonable.

Egg hunting – Inspiration Form G Dragon: Crooked

In our pitch, we mention Crooked by G Dragon. We talked about the image that we are going to create for the three artists in this music video, are mostly inspired by some hip pop star singers in Asia. For instance, G-dragon is the most famous K-pop singer in Korea. His hip-pop music style was influenced by black hip-pop rap, and then added his own innovation. His music video also strongly reflected iconic hip-pop elements. We are going to imitate and try to recreate some similar scenes from his music video called “crooked”. In this video, G-dragon shaped a very cool, wild, passionate and rebellious image. That’s what we also want to achieve in our work.

Egg Hunting – Group distribute and Collaborative contract

we have four group members, each of us have our own duty. But after we finished our shooting, we decide to edit as a group, basically we will have one person to do the edit job that day, but all of us would contribute the ideas and share some advices for our music video. Because we feel it is a group work, we wanted to show the video that contains all of our thoughts, and as much as possible to let every one of our group member satisfied. Our goal is to demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts of music video. Deliver all elements of the productions dossier within the set deadlines. Finish project entirely by the due date. Split the work evenly, fairly and work well as a team. We will working weekly on this project, create something of worth that could be used in a portfolio for future employment. Master the skill of team cooperation, exercise the communication ability. Be able to product variety kinds of music video from narrative to non-narrative style based on a team. Improve the skill of post production including editing, organization among others.

Egg Hunting – How to edit the music video: Extra reading and experience

The video is transcribed into the computer. Usually USB, firewire or other interfaces can be used. Whatever you do, make sure you upload everything to your computer and store it in the same directory. Start your editing software. Whether you’re using Sony Vegas, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or other high-end software, miracles will happen here. Use the best material. Look at your shoots from beginning to end, each tape to look at and find the best. Use the sounds received in video to match the music trajectories. Don’t worry about the slightest noise in the tracks, because it’s not your final video. Cover the tracks in the frame. As the track is uploaded, see if the picture is in sync with music. In general they will be close, but not perfectly synchronized. Make small adjustments to harmonize the picture with the sound — this is especially important for the picture of a band leaving the country, because a little bit of the pool will be obvious. If you want, you can add a header to video. The music videos used to feature song titles, singer names, record labels and MV director names. Some singers now choose to “film” the information. Talk to your work team, actors, and bands about whether to add this information.

Egg Hunting: How to shoot the music video – summary from extra reading and experience

Set up the site. Now that you’re ready, the actors are rehearsing very well, the whole team is ready to go, ad then you’re going to, and then you’re going to start setting the scene. Select a shooting scene carefully. Set the camera. Use a tripod for the static scenes in the MV, as the shaky camera can sometimes distract viewers. Other times you can use a hand-held anti-shaking camera to capture dynamic scenes, or take a highly dynamic scene with a completely free-form camera. If you have enough manpower and budget, take an angled and style-oriented approach so that you can get more creative choices when editing. Put the actors in position. If they are already filming, let them remember their location. If they are getting into the camera as they are filmed, let them wait at the entry point. Let music be ready. Let the audio teacher locate the appropriate points in the song, so that the actors and staff can be filmed in sync with music in time. When you start shooting, the longer you play, the better. If you’ve done a lot of shots, you can shorten the time. When the sound teacher is ready and the music starts to ring, he shouts “acceleration!” (meaning that when the tape has been automatically played, it will take time to reverse it). The consonant would also put the sound in video, so that the postsystem could follow. The light! Let all the staff in charge of the light, all the lights that need to be turned on open. Camera! The cameraman pressed the button to begin recording and began shooting. Repeat all the scenes in the MV. In the end, you’ll get tons of tape, including different angles, good and bad, and it’ll be fun!

Egg Hunting – Reflection on final music video work

For the final version of our music video, we did several times change of that. Especially after we showed the rough cut in the class, we got a lot of advice of how we could improve our final music video. Depending on these very important options that Rohan and some classmates gave to us, we did more shooting including some b rolls to fill up some empty space of our music video. on December 14, we finished our last version and showed to Rohan. There are several feedback that we got form him, according of that, we made these changes. And we all pretty statisfied with the result turned out of our fine cut version. I recorded the suggestions that Rohan gave to us after he watched our final version. The first one is to change the color of the opening shot which is after the b roll but before the singing part start, we should change it into black and white thus to match the previous shot, so the color turns out with the music. this way could make an emphases on the beat of the music. The second point is to avoid the big sigh of some brands showing in the video. During filming, we mistreated some of the clot shots, we could not completely abandon these shots. So Rohan suggested us that we could use some filter lens or camera effect to cover some colt shot, to make it look not too obvious. The fourth suggestion is about the shadow scene that we have in our music video. We cut the footage into two parts, to create a effect looks like the shadow was talking to the person. But when the tow images are connected, the light will come in and out, causing the pictures not to be particularly harmonious. So Rohan suggested that we could replace these scenes with conversation between people and people, shadows and shadows. In this way, it avoids the problem of the disharmony of the picture. In general, our final version is consistent with the content of our pitch. The image of the three lead singers in the video is also in line with our previous vision, which is cool, wild, rebellious and passionate. After I watched our final version several times, there are many outstanding points of our music video. My favorite part of this video is the scene where we shoot in the Houis Lane, when Han is leading in front, Yan and Leo was dancing by the side. The other great shot is taken place at the apartment, where we create an colorful shadow effect on the wall. And all the series of people talking to people and the shadow talking to shadow. Also another successful part of these video is we used the effect of the ghosting during Yan’s solo dance part. And the powder shot where we let it melding with the gun shot sound. The ending part I also loved the lighting change with the melody thus to leave the audience with a reverie. We did not use the narrative form to express our music video, but all of the footage are designed according to the lyrics. One of the provocative scenes in the music video is also used to map the character’s image.

Egg Hunting – Weekly reading – Situating music video: Between feminism and popular culture

This article talked about the video for Pink’s Stupid Girls. This critique is reinforced by a set of equal and opposite images of women. Despite more nuanced versions of this brand of criticism – which acknowledge that music videos “can operate in multiple ways” that “allow for a range of interpretations.” as such, Stupid girls visualises both the body and sexed/gendered identity as contingent and malleable. One of the most important tenets of postmodern and poststructural theories is the notion that the self in not an essential self rooted. While agreeing that the term may signal the end of a distinctly feminist politics and critique. More recently, Angela Mcrobbie has offered what she calls a “complexification” of this backlash thesis. Of course, it is not difficult to see why many critics find this definition of postfeminism troubling. The cash value of this position for feminist theory, and in particular feminist studies of the media and culture, is twofold.
