Week2 : A COLLECTION OF LIKE OBJECTS – “Signs”

Our group’s collection of like-objects is about signs. When we first got the camera, we did not have any idea about the shooting. Eamon, Jonah, Vivian and I went on the street to figure out what to shoot and soon we noticed that there were lots of signs on the street which might be a great focus to do. Sign is probably the most common thing in our lives, we often ignore it, when we need it, we look closely and will find that it contains a lot of information. This collection is about the signs in the city. The sign could be a word, a shop signboard and even a symbol. For example, the second picture is a sign with information about the food court and QV square. We could indicate that there are lots of restaurants under the sign on the wall because of the big arrow. Moreover, the people in the picture also tell us information about the food court. The picture was taken in daytime and the time when it was taken was nearly evening as the lights outside were on. And the weather was a bit cool which could be observed by the clothing that people wearing. The city is a multi-cultural city as there were people of different races. It was Spring or Summer time because the trees on the street were green. We can even guess why people were there from their body languages and their gestures. So that even a single picture contains lots of information about the weather, the time, the place and people. This collection is the reflection of people and Melbourne city.

Here we took the photos at QV square, Swanston street and state library of Victoria.
