For this assessment task, my partner and I filmed one of our friends ( Siyu Wang). The theme of my interview video is about LGBT. The reason why I want to choose this theme is because that I have a lot of lgbt friends around me and most of them were willing to share their experiences to me. Therefore, I got the idea to interview one of my lesbian friends to be my interviewee and share her story to us. Actually, the three interview pieces recount the same story by using three different editing techniques to retell her story.

FOLIO INTERVIEW 1:

For the first piece of my interview, I used distressing music to influence the audience’ emotions, telling them this topic is not easy for everyone to speak out. This part of interview described when did she find out she likes girls, however, she didn’t look herself as a “freak”. On the contrary, she accepts herself as a lesbian, she also appreciated her friends of accepting her as a lesbian. There always will have the other side which is not accepted. My friend also expressed her feeling about those people who is not accepting, “Don’t be a hater, just get your life.” I’ve used plenty of time to edit this part of the interview. While we shooting this video, we met some episodes, like someone came to interrupt us or had other noises. Therefore, I need to listen over and over, in order to cut the scenes I need perfectly.

FOLIO INTERVIEW 2:

The second video is more about how she feels about being a lesbian, whether she is proud of being a lesbian? The main idea of the second interview is positive. I used lively rhythms to guided the audience know that what Siyu Wang as a lesbian is not full of negative emotions, she is not a negativist but a positivism. It has subtitles for every sense, it would help the audience to understand the content. What’s more, the audience might question themselves about this topic, which helps them to understand themselves better. For those people who might not accept Lesbian or Gay, they might change their minds or be nice to the others. By using the transition effects, like blurring out background which makes the whole video is not stiff.

FOLIO INTERVIEW 3:

The last piece of the interview is similar to the previous one, but the content is different. Because is only two minutes for each video, therefore I edit the video into two parts. It was really a pity that I did not shoot what Siyu Wang and her girlfriend’s life events due to they do not have extra time for me. This part talks about her family, what would she do if her family found out she is a lesbian. She is a very strong person, she said she would help the family to accept her as a lesbian. She would not “betrayal” herself in order to satisfy her family, she is proud of who she is.
