I chose THEY FILM PEOPLE, DON’T THEY as my studio this term. I believe that this studio can teach me a lot about how to make a documentary. To be more specific, we will do series of reading, watching, planning, shooting and editing exercise. Also, we have to address the research question that what types of ethical issues arise when we turn the camera on documentary participants, and, from a production standpoint, what creative and technical challenges arise whilst filming and editing interviews? To some extent, I think studio of THEY FILM PEOPLE, DON’T THEY? is a research project team.
I am looking forward to participating in various studio activities, including screening, discussion, practical exercises, reflective tasks and media production. After the study, I wish I could master a certain media production skills, such as recording interview, filming, editing. I hope I can successfully produce a documentary by myself soon.
As documentary making also involves many ethical issues, I need to know about ethical issues arise in documentary filmmaking. I desire to learn the strategies to address the issue. Filmmakers are responsible for almost every aspect of the documentary, from script to the sound effects. It needs lots of knowledge. So first I need to read more. I need to gain more ideas and experiences. Attendance to the studio can help me to gain more technical skills and experience. I wish I could develop interviewing and filming documentary skills after I take this studio. Finally, I can meet many people in the filmmaking circle, which would be a good resource for my future development.
