What did you learn about making media through noticing?
Through this task in noticing, I have learned that the more we notice the more we are able to develop our media staff. I did three experiments and I got my ideas and plans more and more specific. In my first question, I paid attention on what people usually notice when they look at a picture; the second question is based on my first question, which was that I found most people are really sensitive to notice color and shapes so that I set my second question as which one do people process first, color or shape? Finally, after I got the conclusion, I decided I would focus on how different tones of colors affect people’s emotion and feeling. I would like to use photography as my method of media because my photos are stillness so that I can show them and the responders can tell me what they notice for the first glance. Besides, the questionnaire is the major way to prove my ideas in the whole process of the experiments. There are large amounts of information can be collected from a group of people in a short period of time. In addition, the results getting from questionnaire have been qualified, it can be used to compare and contrast my questions. In short, we create media by noticing but it is not enough. The most important thing is that we need to mark them then do deeper thinking and practices to create more. Finally, I will continue to develop more things based on my three experiments. Every time I look at my media pieces, I will prompt to notice different aspects of my media pieces so that I can take them into consideration for task four.
How are you going to develop these experiments into a larger project for Task Four?
- When it comes to task four, I will still focus on color because our life is full of color and it is a vital element so that it totally worth to develop further. I may explore how colors change people’s emotion and perception ? Can people break their fixed cognitive of colors through media. (eg: when talk about red, red is usually associated with meaning of love, passion, desire… What red can represent expect those fixed association? I mean how does color present an opposite meaning than itself.
