Before I went to take photos of St Patrick’s Cathedral Church, I expected to see prayers reading Bibles, praising God, or holding ceremony. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen people holding any ceremony on that day. In addition, I was looking forward to see huge French windows with clear glass. However, I saw there are eleven double windows, five of which are filled with stained glasses in the church. These are different from my imagination. Furthermore, from watching my partner’s photos, I realised that our ways of collecting media differ from each others. For instance, I used to take photos with wide angle but most of photos taken by my partner with close-up shots. Indeed, I have learnt a lot of new ideas of noticing things around me. Take the Patrick Pound exhibition as the example, he is interested in making things coherent. He has created vast new collections and they are grouped into his own categories. It inspires me that we should be adept in finding similarities among different individual things although they seem like without any relevance between each other. To make things together and divide them in different kinds of categories, we will find something new and interesting. In addition, through this task two and good communication with my partner, I completely have learnt new methods of noticing from my partner. To be more specific, I found that she usually pay her attention on detailed things like people’s facial expression, patterns on pillars. To be honest, I usually notice detailed things as well but I won’t do further thinking for everything I see. Actually, I feel like my daily life is not changeful so that it makes me to ignore things around me without awareness. I mean sometimes we don’t notice things with our eyes, we see instead with our emotions and values. Therefore, I came out one good way to practice is to consciously notice at least three things every day that I have not noticed before. Then I may associate each new thing with a new thought. By paying attention to different things going on around us, instead of ignoring beautiful things. In short, I aware that I should being mindful and notice things consciously, it will allow me to see fresh and new opportunities for changing my life probably.
