Prompt:

I chose ‘Seeing the unseen’ as my studio subject this semester. To be honest, i got no clue with it when I saw the name of this subject because it sounds like interesting but abstract as well. In my own opinion, I guess seeing the unseen can be explained as something that human eyes don’t show us. The first word came up to my mind is energy because the world around us is comprised of energy, but we are not able to see or touch it. Then I realised that we easily ignore things that we cannot see such as further stories behind the surfaces, people around us…

I am so sorry that I was not in class because I still was in my home country last week but I finished the reading “Forms of Noticing” which really provides me valuable information of noticing and reminds me of noticing everything around us.

The author describes several different forms of noticing. The most impressive point is that the author mentioned that most of people remember things which are really important at that moment. However, they totally forget what they reminded before when they leave that session. I believe that most of people have been through this situation in their daily life. For this reason, the author suggests readers to write things down to avoid forgetting.

Due to the reason that I was not able to join the class discussion last week but I can give my opinions on “ Is noticing negative or positive?” which was the topic my classmates talked about last week. I believe that both of advantages and disadvantages inevitably happen when we do notice. On the one hand, what most people don’t realise is that positive experiences, even small ones. Actually, they provide you with valuable resources that can be used to reduce stress, including physical symptoms such as headaches or muscle tension. Noticing may make it easier for you to detach yourself from work at the end of the day. On the other hand, noticing can also bring people stress as well. For example, the situation is when you get alone with someone else. Imagine that you notice every details on what they act, the way they treat you, the further meaning underneath what they say…I guess it really makes you feel exhausted.

In week two, we went to the exhibition which really provides me some good points of noticing. For instance, we usually ignore pictures seem like ordinary with nothing stands out which means they are hard to be noticeable. On the contrary, we only notice the similarities among those pictures when they are being together. It reminds me of noticing things around us even though when they exist individually.
