Video Editing

In last week tutorial, we had discussion and practise about video editing. For me, I edited several videos before actually. I thought that video editing is just to put all clips in sequences and add some effect then. However, I realised that editing is not as simple as I think after I had this week’s lecture and tutorial. In fact, I have learned that film editing is a creative and technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking. In addition, the job of an editor is not simply to mechanically put pieces of a video together, cut off video slates or edit dialogue scenes. The film editor works with the footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences to create a finished motion video. They also must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing and so on. Editors usually play a significant role in the making of videos or films. After I knew that, I felt like very challenging to be a excellent editor.

The editing is all about eyes:

Actors and actresses’ facial emotion is very important in a story, a lot of detailed information could be told through their eyes. In this case, it is vital that editors should carefully cutting shots and providing important details to audiences.

For the rest of time, we presented our HAIKU video to our classmates and came out some ideas for future self portrait project.
