Assignment Three – Development 1.4

The Final Process

This week is the final week of the project and we still worked on the editing on Korsakow. As what we discussed in the consultation, the colour might not be a necessary element in our project, but our final decision was to use black-and-white colour for all images in each landscape. To have a clearer structure of the project, the initial idea was to set all close-ups and landscapes as videos, but we found it made everything in mess, then we decided to set landscapes as videos, while all close-ups as images. Now, it might be the landscape is a video with colourful but the close-ups are images with black-and-white. It looks better because the black-and-white colour could emphasise the main subject, which is the landscapes. Thus, once we made the final decision, the work we did first was to turn screenshots into black-and-white.

Another issue that made the project hard was the transaction. To get better visual effects, we wanted to made the project looks more logical. When the viewer clicks one image in the landscape, the related images in other landscapes will appear, then clicks the image in another landscape, the image the viewer chose and the landscape the image involved to would appear at the same time on the screen. For example, if the viewer click ‘sleep in the bedroom’, the images of ‘sleep in the library’ will be shown as well, then click ‘sleep in the library’, the chosen image and the landscape of library will display on the screen, so that the viewer could see more close-ups by clicking the video of library. Although the idea seems excellent, it is exactly the hardest part of the project. The transaction for each part is hard to complete because of the complex relationships between ‘in keywords’ and ‘out keywords’ on Korsakow. If we want to achieve the transaction in order to show the image and the landscape at the same time on the screen by clicking the chosen image, it is necessary to find the order of each landscape and the correct keywords. Fortunately, we spent almost two days on it and finally figured it out.

The title of the project was designated as ‘Space’ and used the black colour as the background in order to highlight the title. We think the actions we shot are possible to happen anywhere at any time, so we named ‘space’, which means everything has connected with each other and happened under the same space.

Meeting Recording

For the last meeting on Tuesday, we worked on Korsakow to completed the final stage and discussed the pitch. Thanks a lot that I became a group member with Nagini, Mia and Taras. I learnt with them how to use Korsakow, although the logic of ‘in keywords’ and ‘out keywords’ are hard to understand, fortunately, we did that. The structure of shooting is another I learnt, such as how to encourage the viewers to pay attention to the main subject by shooting it in a close distance or set the subject as the majority on the screen.

Pitch Feedback

I am glad that teachers enjoyed our project because images, videos are beautiful; the actions in each landscape work very well and the transaction among landscapes perfectly match. The materials in the project are ‘natural movements’ and move people through the materials by the thought of narrative function in the landscape.

I think our project is more focus on ‘action’ than ‘location’ because the location is the landscape, but what we spent more time on was the different actions that might happen in that location. For the next project, we think we can focus on ‘action’ in order to develop in a deeper way. If to follow the subject of ‘hands’, it might be creating different movements on ‘hands’ by looking for patterns in the landscape. For instance, let hands going up or down or make hands ‘dance’ in the same landscape. Although there are no specific ideas about the next project, the framework is already decided which is focus on the movement on the particular subject to look for the patterns in the landscape.
