Task One – Reflecting Post

What made you stop to record the moments of noticing you did?

I collected the frequency of using electronic products when studying, so the aspect that stopped me was the end of the class and the limitation of the investigation. It is impossible for me to notice whole students, so what I can do is to notice people around me. Moreover, the tools for recording is limited because the product I could only use is the phone.

How did the way you collect relate to your initial research prompt?

I think the process of study is one of the ways to ‘noticing’. When we studying, we need to learn new knowledge from teachers and taking notes or recording is crucial during the period. Everyone has different abilities on studying, some people need to record to help to remember, but some have a good memory. We may notice someone acting professional or something useful, but the more important thing is that we need to think if that method works on ourselves.

What did you discover/learn about making media through noticing?

Noticing is the essential ability to each media workers. As we live in the world with the fast pace, most of us ignore the beautiful and meaningful views around ourselves, the responsibility of media workers is to find out the details in daily to make life more colorful. Thus, media platforms and media tools are acting crucial aspects through noticing, they are used to recording and advertising.

What question(s) arise for you out of this making?

The limitation of my thinking is the biggest problem. There are many interesting things surrounding me, but I cannot come up with some ideas that what I want to notice when I saw the task. I should not think of it as a task, I need to relax and make the task as the daily life. The stress of the task would make me do the bad job and limit my mind.

Feedback from the group in the studio:

The aspects that I did not notice when I record the materials is ‘lights’, ‘stillness’, ‘concentrating’ and ‘mass’.

Lights:

When I took these pictures and videos, ‘lights’ was the essential machines in these media materials. This helps us to have a better, bright environment to study.

Stillness & Concentrating:

The videos looks like more static, even though I recorded videos for about 5 seconds because students always prefer to sit the certain place to study for over one hour. The most frequent movement they would do is typing or writing and it reveals that they make a concentrated effort to study.

Mass:

People like to put all things on the desk when they pay attention to do something because it is easy for them to pick something required. Moreover, it would be looks mass when lots of students sit together.
