Amazing ‘Editing’

16 March, 2017

I have been use Adobe Premiere Pro for more than one week, but I never thought write a ‘initiative’ blog about it until today. The topic of this week’s lecture and workshop is ‘editing’, meanwhile, thanks to lessons of this topic, I know how hard editing is.

When I was in secondary school, I wanted to made a video, even a short film by myself many times. However, it was just a idea and I never done that because every time after I download the app which can edit video, I have no idea about how to do that. I searched online about the solution, but still failed, so I gave up. Unfortunately, editing a video was just a dream in my mind for many years. However, this dream comes true and I did that.

‘Editing’ is really a hard work because we need to think about the main idea we want to let audiences know, then go to collect all materials we possible need to use. A video is like a story, audiences would have feedback after watch it or they will have their own ideas about the video. Each person may have different thinking from others, it would causes different opinions and evaluations of audiences. The editor uses video to express to audience what he or she wants to expresses, however, the key point that decides audiences can get the point or not is the scenes and the order of each piece of clip. Editor needs to use PR to cut each picture, video and audio into several clips and order them in a new sequence completely. It just like they exercise we did in this week’s lecture, we need to make over 30 pieces of story into right order. Only finish this step, the framework of the video would be finished, and it is the main step to make sure the theme of the video. Moreover, title and subtitle are important as well, it would gives audiences the instruction of the video.

As I said above, editing exists everywhere, such as videos, dramas, television shows and films, even music. In another word, most of works about media need the ability of editing. Even in daily life, people like to use camera to edit documentaries or videos for wedding, parties, birthday parties, camping or some moments they moved. The first achievement I got in RMIT University is learnt how to editing, and I believe this ability is useful in the following days.
