For the project work, we took multiple photos about ‘pens’ and put them together. When we review the media we collected, ‘pen’ is the keyword and links them together. In the case of online media platforms, we would like to take Instagram as the example. If we type ‘pen’ in the Instagram, the content that related to it would be displayed. Then, click the tag we interested in, the related pictures, videos will show up.
Not only based on the pictures, the video does work as well, such as YouTube.
ā Tag’ is one characteristic of online media platform. People could post everything online and share with others to find someone who has the similar experiences. In another word, ‘tag’ makes the connection between the public and be closer. People or things which with similar characteristics could be connected by ‘tag’ through the online media platform. Everyone could be a contributor as much as a consumer. For example, if there are no tag you want exists, you can create one so that others would find it from your creation.Ā To make your own catalogue of information is the method of tagging as well. As the ‘Network Literacy’ reading from week 2, ‘tag’ links things which are similarity together across the network.
As what we discussed in week one, ‘tag’ exists everywhere and get the interaction among people. People could have new friends by searching the keywords they interested or get new ideas by looking at other’s products. They could share their comments, critique and thoughts online as well. The content of ‘tag’ is also unrestricted, which means it is free to create the sorts of the tag, such as educational, controversial, entertainment.
In terms of thinking about and making online screen works, I still considering whether the benefits of the unrestricted of online screen work content outweighs the downside. As we discussed, the content of online screen works are unlimited, so the users could express and post everything they want online. Although the freedom of expression is one of the main reasons why the users favour it, there are still some negative factors. Thus, the positiveĀ outweighs the negative or not is the question I remain.
