Week 10 Studio Feedback

In the Thursday’s studio in Week 10, I provide some example photos I took during Week 9. As I did not have the final decision on the project until the studio finished, the studio gave me so many valuable and excellent instructions.

Before the studio, I tried to change the project to the theme ‘the color and the contrast’, what I mean is to research on how colors change the contribution to the item. However, based on Hannah’s feedback, the question I came up with at the end of Task Three is more suitable, thus, here is my final decision for the question of Task Four:

How does ‘red’ work at the different time?

Through the discussion and feedback in the studio, I almost get my ideas into shape.

I will emphasize on one specific color, which is red. To research on the relationship between red and the time, I will take photos and clips at any time when I notice something is red that grab my attention, there is no exact requirement of locations and time zones. Then, rewatch the media I collect and find the similarity and difference among them, so that get the conclusion of ‘how red works at the different time’. Next step might create the video to combine all media together to make everything more narrative and easier to understand. To reach the final aim of the project, which is to leave media artefacts open for someone to experience, sense or embody, maybe I will ask the volunteer about his/her feelings after watching the video. The questions would base on if they notice something new through the video. However, I am not sure about this step, I still need to consider it because I want to know if my media really allow people to sense and notice new things in the world around them that far exceed meaning.

For the original idea of editing the video, I want to create the narrative story to find out how the changes of color affect interpretation. However, I found I am too strict on ‘create the story’, the project we need to focus on is not exactly about ‘something’, but rely on ‘noticing’, for example, by looking at the red, people really notice more elements of red in the world. Thus, thanks to Hannah’s guide, the reason I might use the video is to make more sense of noticing ‘red’ around us in the movement world, instead of just complete the project by creating the story.

Media that collected during Week 9:

The photos all with the elements of ‘red’. For accepts the suggestions in the studio, I will discover more things about ‘red’ around me by walking on the street, pay attention to some tiny items and take these at different times (this is the most important point!) The amount of media I have been collected are not enough, I still need to work on it continuously.

For the studio in Week 11, I hope I could finish the collections of media to find out the existence of ‘red’ at different times in a day.
