Task Two – Refining

  • What did you learn about making media through noticing that you could apply to further projects?

Task Two, relevant readings, the excursion gave me great inspiration. Each tiny segment is separate, to combine them to form the whole is what we need to by use media. Thus, the foreground and background are important elements during the process of collecting the media so that the media maker could create the excellent work. Moreover, to create the space for the viewers to the image is also crucial. For example, the viewer may use their imagination to imagine the background story when they saw the photo for the first glance. The freedom of imagination and related the photo to the surrounding environment are what I expect to do to further projects.

  • Write out 2-3 queries/questions which emerge for you about noticing that you might want to explore further.

Question One:

How the lighting effect affects the visual effect in the case of indoor?

The place that I collected media is the corridor. I found the effect of lights could bring people feel brighter and give people a sense of glory. Moreover, the bright lights would make photos more colourful and attractive.

In Vivian’s collection, although Queen Victoria Market is a huge area including indoor and outside, the effect of dimly lights cannot attract the viewers. The dim lights do not display how active and wonderful the market is, if the lights brighter, the colour of the vegetables, fruits and meats would look more attractive.

Thus, I think the brighter effect of lights would grab people’s attention and I would like to do some research on the relationship between the lighting effect and the visual effect.

Question Two:

How important the structure of photography is when collecting media?

The structure of photography would bring the viewers a sense of beauty. If I want to set a theme by using a subject (for example, in my photos, I used the elephant doll as the main subject to set a theme), it is necessary to think how to make the main subject becomes suitable for the background. This is the weakness of my photos, I need to consider the collaboration of the main subject and the whole scene.

To be honest, I think there are no skills of the structure in Vivian’s photos. The photos she took are just revealed a general view of the market, there are no specific subjects, such as focusing on a specific shop, food or people.

Thus, the importance of creating the suitable structure of photography could explore because it is helpful to make the whole picture looks more beautiful.

Question Three:

What elements would make a deep impression on the viewers?

There are many ways to collect media but in my opinion, how to grab the viewers’ attention is crucial. The purpose of the media is advertising, so let the viewers remember the paramount.

By comparing Vivian’s media and mine, I found we had different focuses, the methods of photographing and the structure. For example, I prefer to focus on the tiny things, but she likes to shoot the general scene.

Would the aesthetic degree of photos and the unique features of photos affect people’s attention, or there are more related elements?
