Reflection – Group exercise #4

We finished shooting two film clips on Wednesday class.  It is hard to arrange another good time for everyone to shoot clips together, so we had to finish two clips in 3 hours. We had already discussed about our roles on Monday’s class, so everyone got in their position quickly. It took us quite long time to settle sown the camera and audio. Kris and I were responsible for the audio mixer, we were kinda mess-up about the mixer, and we asked Robin for help. And then we were ready to go, we luckily found a vacant classroom next to our classroom, and that was a good place for shoot. When Kris and I were testing the sound, we found that the sound was too soft, and it took us a while to figure out the problem, we double checked  the steps, and it was because we didn’t adjust the voice in the camera. We spent a long time on watching the film clips, because my group members didn’t ‘study’ the clips. Personally I think everyone should watch the clips many times until they clearly know the structure, position and every single details. Especially for a director, he is in charge of the whole film, so he should spent more time studying the clips than any others. For me, although I am not the director, I analyzed every single shots, such as camera angles, sitting, position , movement , lighting and etc ..  I personally enjoy doing this, and to be honest I think I would make it better if I was the director. I think it is very important for a director to having a good attitude and be diligent about the works, (not only director, everyone should do) because he is making the most important decision, it  directly influence the result of the film. I heard some people  saying that : “hey, I’m the director, who are you talking to? you should talk to me, listen to me. ”   I think the only reason people have different voice is because that they think the director is not making the right decision, they could do better. Therefore, I think as a director, at least you need to convince people that you are hard-working, to prove that with your action. This is my personal opinion about the  basic requirements of  being a  director.  Moreover, I found that the ‘Tengoku to jigoku’ is harder to shoot than ‘I Fidanzati’, because it was  one-take, and the people’s position  always changes many times, we shoot about 5 takes. As for ‘I Fidanzati’ , it has about 6 shots, and the position is pretty more the same , so we did less than 2 takes for each shots.  When I was edit the clips, I found that the sound was a bit of soft, I wasn’t sure about the reason, because the sound looks good on the mixer.  Moreover, the focus of ‘Tengoku to jigoku’ is quite soft, and the camera wasn’t on standard. From this exercise, I think we could find out problems  of our works, and make it better next time.
