Presentation reflection #2
I really like the ideas from Darcey’s group. Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite films, I like how it apply montage technique and the film style. Therefore, when I saw they are going to recreate the car park scene, I was so excited to see. I like the location they choose to film , the red neon lighting from the salon is very attractive and moody. I like the idea of using red lights to create continuity and relationship between different location, it is such a smart play. That is what we could apply on our film as well, to use an certain object to build connection and relationship. I think their work is pretty challenging, they need to find a way to use lights to build emotion, so only limited light sources is not good enough to achieve that. Guest Juliet suggests that they could add some water to help create the outside world of the car. I really like this idea, because the people in the car have their world and story, and they are isolated from the outside world, so it is important to create such feeling. The camera lens seems to be a big problem as well, in the pulp fiction, it has shallow depth of filed while shooting in such wide shot, it is so difficult to achieve that. They are planning shot the same scene in daylight, which is a great idea, it allows you to see the difference between each scenes. And I think if they could edit the night version and day version together, will create a huge visual impact. By knowing their concept and feedbacks , it reminds me a lot of issues we need to consider in our group film as well. We need to have a more detailed plan of the camera coverage and lighting.
