Basically, our content is base on Camus ‘s novel  “The Stranger”,  so we are going to film the ending of this story. The ending is the monologue by the protagonist Meursault, before his death sentence.

The first idea is to shoot in a dark room with a window, we gonna set up two lights, the actor will walk around in the room, while the lighting keeps changing all the time. And it will ends up with his standing in front of the a light , so we could see his silhouette.

The second idea is showing it in a realistic way, perhaps film in the cemetery, or an apartment, or even in jail. We are thinking to film it in one take without showing his face. Or we could do multi location.

Paul  raised up some  ideas.

First  how we gonna set up the lights?

I think it depends on the locations, we are thinking to shot in a warehouse and seaside. so the we might use two 1000k arri  lights. but we are still thinking about the specific plan of lighting, because we might have to first test some lights to get more familiar about it ,and then we could design the specific lighting.

Second :  Considering about multi locations

Yes, we do consider about multi location, now we plan to shot his memory of his mother in seaside, because we believe this part remains Meursault’s  sentiment about his mother, it shows his soft side. so we want to include the outside world.  The dark room is more about himself, a  cold, uncaring, unmotivated, anti-social man. The changes of lighting will also represent his emotion.

Finally: Meursault  –   male or female ?

When we first read it, we see a male character.  However, after we read it many times, we are thinking it doesn’t have to be male, Meursault can be anyone, a female figure can bring more visual impact.
