week 7

Dr.Joshi went through the development of immersive art, he mentioned about the Flicker Fusion Rate.  The certain frequency of intermittent light stimulus appears stable to human eyes. I used to draw a  small cartoon figure with different movement on every page  at the right bottom conner of the book, and flip the pages fast, and I would see the figure ‘s moving.Visual Illusion fools our brain to see something is not real, and to not see something is real.

One of the classic visual illusion is from Müller-Lyer.  The top lines in A and B seems longer than the bottom lines, however they are all the same length, the circle and arrows misleads our eyes and produce misjudgments.

Even reality is an illusion , when we look at the ‘Gathering for Gardner’ Dragon, The head of the dragon seems to follow the eyes of the audience everywhere,  and we cant even tell it the face is actually hallow.

We have also reviewed Monoscopic Techniques ,Stereo Photography and 3D Street Art . I have seen people paint 3D Street Art in Melbourne many times, it wasn’t that real when you watch close to it, but it can be breathtaking when you look  from a particular angle.

Dr. Joshi  listed some ideas of adding immersion.

-Adding motion ,simulators

-Positional sound

-Haptic feedback

-High fram-rate
