Week10-reading

M. Dias, M.Arnold , M.Gibbs, B. Nansen & R. Wilken, ‘Asynchronous speeds: Disentangling the discourse of ‘high-speed broadband in relation to Australia’s national broadband network’, Media International Australia, Incorporating Culture & Policy, Jun 2014, Issue 151, p.117-126.

The reading discussed the substantive problems related to the ‘high speed broadband’ in relation to the implementation of Australian’s National Broadband.  The speed is influenced by the communication devices, software, location user subjectivity etc. It argues that the perception of speed is dependent on the subjectivities of internet experience. Australian government used some policy to control the speed. An important technical factor linked to high-speed broadband is the symmetry. Another technical factor that impacts on high-speed broadband is the technique of band width throttling adopted by some internet service providers to selectively slow down upload and download connection speeds.
