Week6- PB3-refelction

The PB3 is quite stressful to me, it is no long a one-minute video, it needs 2-3 minutes long which means I need to take more footage; and it is a portrait about someone else which is a big challenge to me, although I have done lots of photo shoot for many people. To filming someone is totally a different area,  because it doesn’t like photos, I just need to find good lighting, a good angle and done. The person is moving, so I need to catch the movement. Sometime, I cannot use tripod,  so I can only hold  camera by my hand, and the shot will be little shaking. One of the problem I have met during the filming is the lighting. Most of scenes are indoor, so it requires more light. Luckily, my interviewee’s working area is near the window, so the lighting is fine in the morning, but it will get very dark in the late afternoon, so I need to film in a short time. And it took me a long time to adjusted the lighting in Premiere.

Due to the timetable problem, I didn’t have a chance to film with Sony MC50, so  I used my own Canon 70D camera to filming, however I found that there are lots of differences between the Sony MC50 and my own camera. My camera is hard to adjust the focus, and it will change when object moves, so when I checked my footage after shooting, there are lots of shots are out of focus. I think I will definitely use a video camera next time.

I was exhausted finding sound and found footage, I guess it was probably  my research skill was not good enough, or I did not find a right way to search( I had no idea what kind of music I should use) I think  my music can be better, and I will keep collecting music.

Furthermore, I was stuck by  the close credits. I was thinking to create a rolling tittle, but in some reason, my rolling tittle became blurred after exported, so I used still tittle.  I tried to google the solutions, but I still have no idea about it.

I think the most successful things about my work is that I had all the footage I wanted, because I wrote down all the shots I need before filming, including the camera angle, size of shots. During the filming, I tried to shoot in different angles and positions in oder to get the best result. I like filming details, such as the lines and texture, it could creates a surprising result. Thanks to my preparation, I didn’t miss a single shot, and I have got enough footage to edit. I had good communication with my interviewee. Although my interviewee is my boyfriend, I had less knowledge about his work, so I have talked with him about my ideas such as the structure of the video,  the scenes and the style of the video. Also, he shared his ideas and suggestions with me. I think a good interview is based on communication, you need to dig the answer you want, and you need to be a leader, to control the process.

I have learned a lot from this experience. And all of these are helpful and useful to next filming.

1.Do enough research and preparation before filming.

2.Practice  with the equipments and getting familiar with  the setting and function etc.

3.It is better to visit the place you want to film, and find a area with enough lighting.

4.And try to collect music , sound effect or found footage early.

5.It is very important to communicate well with interviewees.
