Yesterday I made a second soundscape, and I was aiming to get forest sounds. I added thunder to add tension to the short, similar to the first soundscape I did with the whirring fans. I think it gives it a calm before the storm effect.
I prefer the first soundscape to this one… I’m not sure why. I think it is because the first soundscape is more ‘other’, surreal, otherworldly, than this one.
In terms of colour, I did a very rough and quick colour job on this one. I picked a colour that I like for the first shot, but it didn’t suit the others (because all the shots a really different). I think the best way for me to colour grade is to divide the shots into different colour categories (so the first shot, the shots with angelique drinking the milk which is primarily white, the shots of the dogs and the woman in the park), grade each category to a point that I am happy with, and to a point where they all sort of match and have a unified look to them, then put that grade into the final sequence.
Before, I picked one grade that I liked, pasted attributes onto all the clips, and it looked horrible, and I had to tweak each clip individually, and I don’t really know what I’m doing so it didn’t work out well. My next post will have my new grade on this second soundscape.
