PRESENTATION FEEDBACK

The feedback that I got on my presentation was suggestions for other ways to experiment in my final project other than just changing the soundscape. Ideas included:

Changing the film speeds

I could use slow motion when K is looking at the woman across the road, or research how filming in different fps changes the feel of a scene.

Changing from day to night

I really like this idea, of shooting the shot of the woman with the dogs at night, so that when K looks over, it suddenly becomes dark. I think this would suit the forest and wolves soundscape the most. I will definitely try this idea.

Changing physical aspects

I could have K looking from across the road, then seeing the woman, or K looking from across the road, then seeing herself standing next to the woman and watching her, or patting her dog. This would make the film more surreal and dreamlike, and I think I will incorporate this in my first shoot.

I also took some notes during other presentations, especially Kiralee’s because the GIFs that she showed of Edgar Wright’s filmed reminded me of the type of aesthetic I want in my final project. This is especially true of the Scott Pilgrim GIFs with Michael Cera because in all films I have seen him in (and on stage when I saw him in a play), he has portrayed characters that are incredibly awkward (or maybe he is a bad actor and that’s just him). I also like the closeup montage technique that Kiralee talked about, just as something that I have never heard of before and something that I want to look into. So I’m going to rewatch Edgar Wright films and films with Michael Cera in them (including a couple I saw in the MIFF program directed by Sebastian Silva). I’m also going to do a close study of Napoleon Dynamite, because I love it to bits and it defined my awkward formative years.

My next post will include more definite plans for the shoot, as this week I will be photographing a storyboard, finalising a shooting date, finding a location and contacting actors.
