In my previous Initiative post I outlined my plan to remake a promo video for the band, Cabret Mellow, and work on my editing. The gig was cancelled on the day because singer was sick, so we had to put aside the project for another time.
In the meantime, this weekend I have borrowed a camera to shoot some footage with some friends of mine so that I can work on editing that. We are going to meet up and throw around some ideas, do some improvised filming, and hopefully end up with a short film art piece. I will post the final video on this blog in the coming week along with some thoughts on my first experience with Premiere.
A friend of mine has approached me about making a short documentary piece about Reclaim Australia and the rallies that they have staged for a UK protest publication. My friend has no experience in filmmaking, and I have no experience in journalism, but I think we will be able to work together to make something awesome. We will be meeting up this weekend to discuss the general logistics of the project, and I also have in the back of my mind, whether this would be a good project to do for Film 3. Before our meeting, I’ve done some reading about the crossover between journalism and documentary.
Here are some articles I have read about making journalistic documentaries:

And here are examples of documentary journalism that I love:

( I actually love most of the documentaries that Vice makes. It’s where I learn all my weird facts about the world.)
