Whilst working on project brief 2 in class, the edited self portrait, I have struggled to find a theme that ties all my abstract pieces of media together – but then I realized that they are all similar in their abstraction of the self. I have decided to edit my self portrait to be a dream sequence, a dream that I dream up. I will consciously portray my subconscious, with the use of prose, rhythm and repetition.
This week’s reading (Scott McCloud’s ‘Blood in the Gutter’) inspired me to leave things unsaid in my self portrait. Instead of spelling out my creative intentions or where I believe the piece is going, I want to allow it to be open-ended so that audiences can connect the dots and use their imagination when watching my project. One light-bulb moment that I had when reading ‘Blood in the Gutter’ was –
I want to assemble a single idea using fragments!
So that’s what I will aim to do by next week!
