This is definitely what I’d call a typical day with online media in my life. Felt pretty routine with starting my online media use checking my phone pretty much as soon as I woke up to check up on all my social media news feeds, messages and notifications. Also like most other days, this constant checking of social media occurred throughout the day, making plans for the weekend as well as ‘staying connected’ to what’s going on in my online space with people I follow etc. The notification and news feed space is more or less just an online vacuum space that we construct and live in. We only see the people we want to see, unless we go searching for something new, and surround ourselves with the content an information that we deem relevant and relatable to us. It’s a space I find more and more bizarre the longer I really think about it.
Outside of the general notification checking, I streamed apple music on the way to and from work today. Again, because for whatever reason I can’t be disconnected from the vacuum of content and info I have built. I can’t seem to be able to sit on public transept and listen to what’s going on around me, or even nothing. I had to be listening to my music the whole way to and from work to stay occupied. As to the way I take in edit online with YouTube (among others) I like to continue to get new content frequently, so apple music is the key to that in a music sense. I don’t just have to listen to my downloaded library, but also explore what’s new from relevant and existing artist’s I already listen to, to find new music. It’s interesting that no matter the medium, the ‘why’ of it all is very similar with online media use.
