Finally I found the location I needed for the waiting room scene shoot, as well as being better prepared myself. The location was more open and suitable, looking actually like it could be a waiting room where we set up numerous chairs along the wall. I also shot an establishing single shot in another location that was actually an open space looking waiting room, which gave me the chance to use spacial editing. Which is to have one shot cut onto the next as if it’s in the same space, just changing angles, however it is in fact to separate locations edited together for suitability. I altered my approach to this shoot in a few different ways, firstly the setting of the scene for our ‘character’. Also other elements of the mise en scene, such as having myself in the scene as an actor, which I felt may add another layer to the scene. I had Corey Lisle assisting me with production and filming, setting up shots with me and assistant directing shots I was acting in. He was a great help to my filming so that I could also participate in the acting as well. I felt that having myself as an extra actor in the scene, I wanted to not just show Jordan’s ‘character’ and what was going on with him reading the dictionary and waiting. But to also have my perspective physically in the scene, showing what I was doing and trying to portray how I was effected by the scene. I felt having a somewhat quick look back at the shoot, that the location I got looked good and portrayed the location like a waiting room like I wanted. We also got a good variety of shots with both Corey and I coming up with shot ideas as we went through it, trying different things and seeing what worked and didn’t. That also gives me more options when I go into the cutting room with this footage, which has me very excited.
