Here I list the links to 5 of my blogs over the semester which demonstrate my engagement with the course throughout the semester. They range from blogs about the electoral activities, readings, proc lessons and my own reflections.

Final course reflection:

The first semester is now coming to a close and with it the end of Media 1. There is a lot to be said about Media 1, what I’ve learnt, the challenges and my own growth as a media practitioner. I’ve got to do and experience a lot throughout the semester during the course, it being the first semester of my University career I got to see how the degree will be structured, the time needed to be put in to assignments and the way the University runs overall. It’s definitely been a learning experience, seeing the many aspects of the course and how diverse in media it truly is. It started off seemingly very basic with simple media objects, to then connecting them to tell a story and eventually to a more complicated media artefact on a chosen topic that is apart of today’s media landscape. With the feedback we receive in class from our lecturers and classmates I’ve been able to see my own shortcomings and triumphs. Which has given me a better grasp of how to think critically about my work and evaluate what works and doesn’t. Through each project brief I feel as though I have gotten a new challenge, being able to create stories in simpler yet more effective ways, about myself, other and grow that to much wider concepts.

Now I have found it much easier to learn and take grow as a media practitioner in the tutorials more than the lectures. I’ve always known that I best learn and grow through conversation, and in more intimate spaces such as the tutorials where both the lecturer and students can have a back and forth between one another, to develop ideas, receive feedback etc.

I discovered quite a lot about how I work and develop throughout the semester. For example during the collaborative project I learnt about my strengths and some weaknesses. Usually throughout High School in group assignments I felt that I did most of the work, however doing a degree where people are there by their own design I felt more comfortable sharing the load evenly and knowing it would get done to a high standard. I got a chance to see and work with people who were better and me in areas and weaker in others. Learning to work together with people to improve on areas that they excel in to get better and helping in area in which they could improve. I’ve truly discovered that this course isn’t just about learning from the designed classes, but from each other and making connections.
