There’s no such thing as silence. A concept I really only ever thought about after ‘hearing’ John Cage’s 3’44” of nothing. It was by experiencing this that I payed more attention to my surroundings, hearing the ambient noise in the surrounding streets below, the tapping one of my classmates made with their foot as they sat there and the buzzing of the air conditioner in the room. While also recognising how uncomfortable I am with doing nothing and trying to focus on seemingly nothing. I almost straight away after John Cage’s piece came on started rigging around in my seat, fiddling with the pen I was holding and looking around the room for something stimulating. Further showing I am in fact a hyper-attention individual, something I realised after week 1’s Media 1 readings.
