When Declan finished a three-month long football pre-season over summer, he did not expect that for the next eight months he would be stuck at home alone. As Victoria went into lockdown due to COVID-19, Declan Doherty’s push for senior football selection at his lifelong local football club was thrown into disarray. Declan not only became unfit but lost a vital connection with his community, as the West Coburg Football club postponed their season indefinitely. THE PINE is a short four-minute documentary focusing on Declan’s individual struggle without football, as well as the important role local footballs clubs play in bringing together members of the community.
