It’s already relevant, you enter the university specifically to participate and learn, but you know where the exits and entries are, where to get coffee, what student services are available and how you can utilise these IF YOU NEED TO. You may not, but you understand they are there and you know how to access them.
Understanding hypertext is relevant, as we’ve learned, because it allows you to be in control in your environment and understand it (to a degree).
If you’re unaware, you don’t have the confidence or knowledge you need to thrive, you just exist.
Hypertext becomes relevant as a network practice and a non-linear form of storytelling and sharing- incorporating elements into work and learning- e.g pathways, communication, innovation associations and utilizing new elements. It’s about making connections between ideas, understanding pathways and understanding the fluidness of meaning. Media is constantly in motion- you need to stay engaged and evolve with the industry and have an understanding as to how things work and how you contribute- that’s the foundation for being network literate. Non-linear structures offer an opportunity for higher cognitive thinking, making observations and pathways between issues and opportunities lead to a higher concentration and retention.
