I have one ultimate goal —— to make films. I find myself using the word ‘ultimate’ a lot this year, because this is already my final studio in my Bachelor degree and that makes me realize how fast life can move towards the ultimate of things.
I made one or two short videos before, but I do not consider them represent the best I can achieve; I am even reluctant to call them films, I see them more like something I put together just to hand in for assignments. This relates to the reason why I join this studio ——this is a film related studio. I would expect this studio’s final outcome to be a short film as well. Although the class is delivered online, I hope it can at least encourage me to give my best effort and utilize all the knowledge and skills about filmmaking I have picked up over the last couple of years to produce a film represents my best capability at the moment. Therefore, I can see this final product as a test result, use it to judge myself and determine what my next step should be. In the last year of my degree, I start to wonder if I am ready to start my career somewhere or should I continue to a higher level of education to better prepare myself. I wish I can find out the answer in this studio.
Certainly, I will have progress to be made during this semester as well. Although we do not get to acquire much hands-on experience on campus, I believe the studio coordinator can still manage ways for us to practice on our own even non-supervised. Furthermore, I would expect the studio to enrich my understanding of filmmaking in various aspects, share some experience of working in the industry, give us an understanding of what to expect once we do start a career after university, especially on what procedure or convention that might help us to adapt into the working environment of film industry.
