IRIS’ theme is making work with a minimal environmental impact by using eco-friendly materials. IRIS can create various patterns through the phased opening and closing of circular-segmented black Liquid Crystal, and the interactive aspect of IRIS comes when visitors approach and their mirror image is projected onto this pixelated makeshift canvas. Thus, I create my work with the same idea of “mirroring users” by using computer camera to catch the users movements, and then shows their movements on the window of Max, that creates the interactivity with users and also encourage users to participate.
For the technical parts, I mainly to imitate the IRIS, not only in terms of function but also in the performance. I try to use “attributes menu” to change the colourful image into monochrome which is very similar with IRIS (it uses black Liquid Crystal to imitate users images). Then I edit the quality of the image, make it looks like a mosaic effect. Moreover I speed up the image in the window by “metro” in oder to make it more like a mirror device. The challenge I faced is that the colour of the image can’t be automatically changed to monochrome. It needs to be adjusted in the attributes menu. Although this problem is finally solved by Camille, it still needs to go to explore by myself.
And the system’s structure is very simple, which needs more research and explore as well.
