new ideas for pj2 + test shot

This week I’ve been walking around the city and shooting some random footages as the test shots for my project 2. I shot the tram, graffiti, dessert, passengers, some small stuffs and garden to consider how can I make them like a more complete film.

As I decided to make my film in a performance style documentary and around the theme of “what is Melbourne”, I tried to keep the authenticity of the film, which means I wanted to show the true face of Melbourne, the every small things happened in city could be seen as a part of Melbourne.

However there’s a lot of things in Melbourne can be shot, I decide to narrow the concept of Melbourne to what I think is the best representative of Melbourne, which are tram, brunch and the most important freedom.

For the shooting style, I used think of using the shooting style Agnes Varda used in <Daguerréotypes>, which sometimes brings the camera in close and loose, sometimes stand back give a big establishing shot like an art and portrait style shot, because I was trying shooting the interview in a traditional way (sit in front of the camera can talk) and combined with some daily life clips. However I’m more prefer the style of Agnes Varda’s another work of <Faces Places>, which conjuring a semi-accidental narrative in the midst of what is ostensibly a documentary.

To imitate this shooting style, I will shoot at different places (coffee shops, city street etc.), walk around just like exploring and talk with my friend, she or sometimes me will appear in the scene and our conversation will be the caption to lead the film continue, also for some scene which only has the view, I will add the voiceover to explain.
