inspiration & shoot practice

For the film project 2’s shooting I’m gonna use a new DSLR, which is canon 60D, so I am trying to practice the new camera as well as shoot some shots for the film draft because I’m really bad at drawing the storyboard lol.

For the practice shooting, I was trying to imitate the shooting style Agnes used in her film Daguerréotypes (the documentary portrait of everyday lives of the inhabitants of Varda’s home neighbourhood of Rue Daguerre in Paris) — which sometimes brings the camera in close and loose, sometimes stand back give a big establishing shot like an art and portrait style shot. Just like she said in the movie, she wasn’t looking for esoterica, I am also shooting things which are normal and basic, so I shot the close shots of when character’s walking, touching the leafs or establishing shots of sitting on bench and thinking, … However this is just a draft so I don’t put the portrait shooting style interview shots in it, for the official edit I would like combine the interview shot and those normal basic daily life shots together, make it more complete and like a story, also adding the voiceover to lead the film and make audience to think about why they are doing this, what emotions they have when they are doing this.

At the technical level’s practicing, I found that when I shoot outdoor, the exposure was hard to maintain the right parameter, which was always over-exposed under the sun, and in video mood the ISO or aperture couldn’t be adjust manually. However I will try to colour graded in my editing process or just avoiding to shoot under the harsh sunlight.
