part 3

Kinda Cool is one of my favourite YouTuber, and I am so into her editing style, which is simple and compact, and her work has influenced me in some extend and inspired me. She has a very personal style on colour matching and font usage in her videos, and that is what I really love and want to learn. For example, in her make up tutorial videos, she chose different text founts (usually casual style) in the video according to the colour and the style of her makeup. However, for the choices of fonts and colours, she always choose chic contrast colour and mix & match to maintain her personal style, which is really cool. Also lots of her choice of background music is retro band music and only use very few electric dance music, I think this is also a manifestation of her personal style (love vintage or retro culture). Thus, I think that Kinda Cool fully demonstrates her personal interests and style and keeps it in her works, which is very attractive and precious in video making world ( it’s very difficult to stick yourself in sometimes). Moreover I am motivated by her as well, I really hope in now and future studies I could find out my own style and stick to it.

Recently I saw a very attractive Japanese TV shows called Kasou Taishou (欽ちゃん&香取慎吾の全日本仮装大賞), one of its work was so amazing, it was a one shot short video work similar to a spy movie however produced in a very creative way, which is set a still camera in front of a small fake TV border, through the person to switch between different hand-made background materials and with actors’ performances to complete the cuts. After watching their work I deeply felt that creativity is very important. It gives people a fresh feeling and looks very attractive. Therefore, I think that in many video works, in addition to the high quality of video production, the point of “creative” will make the work more popular to a certain extent.

Additionally for me the design of cuts are more attractive and inspired me. In my daily shooting practice, I usually used to use long shot, close up or medium shot, and usually use one angle — although they are enough to present the story and the picture, it is not enough to achieve higher quality I think. In that video, they used many type of shots and angles, and the connections between shot to shot were natural, especially on the conversion of the scene and on the close-up of the character, which makes me really want to learn. Additionally in my own works, I wish I can use more types of shots and angles to catch things, and moreover I think I need to do the hard work on practicing editing —matching and connecting different shots. Thus i tried to practice them in my practice version Lenny ( use more types of angles and shots to edit) below.
