The major project’s inspiration is a combination of Philip Worthington’s Shadow Monsters(recognising the shape of users to create the ‘monsters’ image) and some paintings(colourful shapes) in MoMA. Thus I am using the elements of childish colourful moving circles(like firework) and light music to express the positive and relax atmosphere which just like childhood. This work only needs to activate by recognising the users’ face. And this work is the fusion of technology and reality, which represents the childish imagination in your head. While user’s face is recognised, the background on the window will be fused with the colourful moving circles and accompany with the light relax music — create the childish and interesting feeling for users. And the simple way of recognition will make users more willing to participate in the work as well.
I explore a lot on “package manager” and install some new programs to use in my major project. I install the technique of face recognition(through observing whether a face is recognised by the number changes) and then install the program for creating colourful moving graphics. I try to use the new “jit.chromakey” to fuse the background and users image, and when the work recognise the users’ face, the background will start to create the moving graphics and accompany with the happy music. To start create this work, Camille helps a lot. He helps me make the prototype of the work and introduce new techniques, then I can have further explorations. However during the creation, I find it’s difficult to satisfied my thought of suddenly make the graphics appear and move. To solve this problem, I record a video of the colourful moving circles and add it to the playlist, thus when the work recognise the users face, it will play the video which give the same effect as I thought.
