So Ben Affleck is Batman Now

And I wrote a piece about it over here: Five Actors That Get Way Too Much Hate.
Everyone seems to really hate Ben Affleck and I’m not sure why. Then again, he’s never really been in the movies I’ve watched. I haven’t even seen Argo, though I mean to, really.
It just makes me interested in celebrity: some celebrities are almost universally loved (see: Jennifer Aniston, Ryan Gosling), while many are hated with a burning passion (see: Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway). But why? I didn’t delve too far into the actual psychology, but rather chose to focus on why some celebrities don’t deserve to be hated.
Some do though. Here are a list of actual terrible celebrities: Chris Brown (beat up his then-girlfriend Rihanna, which everyone knows), Sean Penn (who tied his then-wife Madonna to a chair and beat her for several hours), Roman Polanski (who has actually, literally admitted to committing statutory rape, but is somehow STILL allowed to make movies and win awards, I mean come on, guys), Mark Wahlbeg (who beat up two Vietnamese men in his youth while yelling racial slurs – one was permanently blinded in one eye), Justin Bieber (not because he sings pop music but because he actually said, and I quote: “Rape happens for a reason”), Jimmy Page (WHO KIDNAPPED AND HAD SEX WITH A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL. FOURTEEN.), and Perez Hilton, who is just all round skeevy.
Well that was enjoyable.
In essence, I think celebrity is a really bizarre thing. From what I understand, the rich, white, famous guys can go on to have fabulous careers absolutely unimpeded by the mistakes in their past (did you know that Tim Allen tried to smuggle over half a kilo of cocaine on a plane when he was younger? I don’t do cocaine, but even I know that would be easily enough to kill several people), while people that have made legitimate mistakes (Kristen Stewart doesn’t smile (not legit) and also had a brief affair with a married director (legit, but I’m pretty sure he’s just as, if not more, to blame, and got off mostly scot-free) or just aren’t liked for some reason, are crucified. Also, they seem to be mostly people of colour and women. Or both.
Surprise.
I guess all in all, I’m just a bit fed up with people and their opinions. That’s just my opinion though.
