A scene that I found really interesting in Part 10 of the work from home series was from The Wild Bunch. I rewatched this scene a few times to figure out whether or not the camera was following the 180 degree rule or not. I think that it was done well enough for me not to quite register that it wasn’t following this rule.

Most parts of the scene quite obviously don’t follow the 180 degree rule. I really like the effect of this though! I think this really effectively shows how surrounded they are. It wouldn’t quite be the same if they stayed on one side of the 180 degree line, the audience wouldn’t be able to feel the effect. I also felt as if there wasn’t many establishing shots showing where all the characters were in relation to each other in the scene. And it seemed all the characters in the conversation were quite far apart, the camera was far away but zoomed far in. I’m not quite sure the effect or intent of this would be, but it is possibly a style of the time and genre.

But overall I liked the coverage in this scene!
