Peer Presentations

I enjoyed this class, it was nice to hear feedback from both Robin and Paul. It was also exciting to hear the presentations of my classmates! I really valued the feedback and discussion I received for my project. It was very helpful and did point out some more important things for my research. I didn’t think just how important it was to properly define what ‘good coverage’ of a soccer scene was, until this discussion. I think it is also quite important that I define it for myself first and then I can base my research around it.

I enjoyed Aiden’s presentation, I really felt like I was learning something! He described and talked about the scenes in the three films he had chosen very successfully. It felt almost as if I had been watching the scene. I thought it was really interesting how he talked about power relationships and how it was conveyed through camera and I totally agreed with how he explained this!

I really liked the concept of Kit’s project, it is a very interesting and specific idea! I think it would be interesting to know if there is a consistency between directors or if between actors at all. If there is any consistencies and/or patterns at all! It is also interesting to think about how these scenes are written into scripts.

I also really loved Cormack’s idea about the long take. It is something that definitely interests me a lot as well! The long take and films in one take are all so tricky and interesting. In my notes I wrote that I thought his idea was maybe a little too broad and there was nothing really to band it all. And while I do think that, I may be contradicting myself and my idea in saying that. My project is probably just as broad. But I think my only question in terms of Cormack’s idea is how will he/did he chose which scenes to study. I’m sure there is long takes in many thousands of films and it would be difficult to find them and then decide on which ones are worth discussing. Although I believe when he has chosen which ones to study, this will be quite an interesting paper. I hope that he would study as many as possible, I think this would make for a more interesting research.

August’s idea of finding the meaning behind the word decoupage and history was such a clever idea! He told us his idea and I was almost disappointed that this idea didn’t cross my mind at all. Although I think this would be a tricky piece of research! And even though it would have an end, it seems that this research could go off on a lot of tangents. Although, so could mine and many others I suppose!

Overall I was impressed with what everyone had decided on doing! And found this class very helpful and interesting.
