This week on Tuesday we organised our proposals in our groups. In the museum we also had a look around for some photos for our project. We found some beautiful old photos of The Sun Theatre and some others.
On Tuesday of the break we took a day to drive around and looked at the West of Melbourne. We started off in Footscray and walked through the main street and the Footscray market. We then drove through to the Heavenly Queen Temple of Footscray. A very nice woman invited us inside and told us a bit about the temple, which gave us the idea of interviewing one of the volunteers there and doing a short documentary. We then went to Yarraville and walked through the main street and the Sun Theatre. We then visited Newport and saw the old steam trains and the Substation. And then we ended in Williamstown. We originally planned to go on the HMAS Castlemaine but it was only open to groups on weekdays. So we looked at the outside. We also walked through and looked at the yacht club and looked for other inspiration around Williamstown.

This week I watched a short film called Please Open on the website Loading Docs. One of our ideas for our project was to make a short documentary on the Sun Theatre and this doc was very helpful to brainstorm ideas! It seemed to feel more like the start of a fiction piece than non-fiction. The shots were very smooth and looked extremely well thought out. I enjoyed having just the interview audio in the back and not going to shots of the interview. I also very much enjoyed the last shot of the film where they used an effect that sounded like the ending of a film reel over the top of a shot of the city.
